Parks Maintenance Technician – Marion County Parks & Recreation

This position is recruited and staffed with reSOURCE Government Services, not Marion County Government BoCC

Location:  Marion County Parks and Recreation – Central Shop, 2602 SE 8th Street, Ocala FL 34471; Marion County McPherson Complex
Work Schedule:  Wednesday – Saturday;  6:00 AM – 4:30 PM 
Pay Rate:  $15.54 per hour
*Required:  Must be able to clear pre-employment background, drug test, and physical; Must possess a valid and active Driver's License w/ relatively clean driving record*

JOB SUMMARY
The primary function of this position involves providing excellent customer service; performing essential job functions, maintaining parks, boat ramps, natural resources and other governmental facilities, collecting and accounting for fees and enforcement of parks rules and regulation for all County owned/operated parks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides excellent customer service to members of the general public and other County employees. Service is provided in person, by phone or via electronic communication.
  • Maintains parks to Department standards.
  • Collect fees in accordance with county cash handling policy.
  • Involves physical labor while conducting park repairs, cleaning and maintenance of ground and facilities.
  • Operates ground maintenance equipment including mowers, tractors, ATV’s, hand operated equipment, etc.
  • Performs routine safety check of facilities and equipment for safe and proper operation; maintain equipment as needed, replacing fuel, fluids and oil.
  • Manages information through email, spreadsheets, task tracking programs, and timekeeping software.
  • Reports problems and illegal actives to Park Ranger and law enforcement when applicable.
  • Natural resource management in accordance with environmental regulations.
  • Required to report to work at the appointed time, as scheduled and to work the entire assigned schedule.
  • Performs routine playgrounds inspections and audits (with Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification).
  • Performs departmental equipment trainings (with trainer certification).
  • Obtains oral and written quotes in the procurement process of parts, materials, and equipment according to County policy.
  • Responsible for assigning tasks and supervision of daily operations in assigned area.
  • Assists Park Ranger as community liaison.
  • Assists with budgeting needs for future equipment and personnel.
  • Acquire and maintain all certifications and licenses required for current position.
  • Implements the organization’s guiding principles and core values.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION
This position has no supervisory responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School education or GED required. 6 months general exp. or equivalent combination of education and exp.
Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of a valid, State of Florida driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to facilitate, establish, and maintain effective and positive working relationship with park personnel at all levels, community partners (that may include governmental, educational, and non-profit organizations) and the general public.

  • Extensive knowledge of equipment, maintenance, and operations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.

  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance work and park operations.
  • Knowledge of applicable state, county and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to train various types of employees.

  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and assign tasks
  • Ability to complete assignments correctly and in a safe and timely manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to frequently walk, stand, climb, stoop, reach, and bend. Have good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination. The ability to lift up to fifty pounds and occasionally one hundred pounds or more.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock; and will regularly be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Work is performed on a flexible rotating work week which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. The typical noise level for this environment is moderate to loud.
