JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for installing, maintaining, and making organizational-level repairs to radios and

radio system hardware and installs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Perform routine and emergency repair and preventive maintenance of specialized radio and
communications center equipment.
Installs and maintains end user radio equipment. Develops and maintains test records for
products. Tracks damage to equipment from any source. Performs testing hardware before and
after deployment.
Troubleshoot and repair radio equipment. Resolve customers’ problems as they occur. Report
any unresolved problems to Radio Systems Manager for resolution.
Maintains detailed department-wide inventory of items received, repaired, distributed,
transferred, or disposed of.
Maintains equipment logs as to downtime, upgrades, and current status.
Coordinates with users for scheduling of radio firmware and/or hardware upgrades.
Add and modify user records in the radio system.
Instructs other support staff on standard methods of troubleshooting.
Provides training to users on the proper usage of radios. Conducts training at the user’s location
at time of installation or at any County facility.
Performs follow-up on all work performed to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance with
standards.
Evaluate damages, repair costs, and equipment serviceability.
Assist the Radio Systems Manager with making purchases and performing department wide
inventory.
Support the Communications Center in the transportation, assembling, installation, and testing
of major or minor appliances (e.g., refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, washers, dryers, etc).
Evaluates equipment serviceability.
Participates in equipment evaluations of proposed new equipment and items.
Assist in department budgeting process by projecting needed equipment and alternatives.
Provide excellent customer service to members of the general public and other County
employees. Personal contact occurs with other employees of the unit, employees of other
departments in the County, citizens, and customers of the department. Service is provided in
person or by phone contact.
Implements the organization’s guiding principles and core values.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
 
SUPERVISION

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age and able to pass a Level II Background check.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational/technical training; and one (1) year experience in
radio hardware installation, maintenance, and repair preferred.

Licenses or Certifications
Possession of a valid, State of Florida driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,

technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients,
customers, and the general public.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram
form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Knowledge of and experience in a computer network environment.
Knowledge of cabling and wiring standards of the County’s in use platforms and related
technologies.
Ability to organize material, analyze information, and develop appropriate recommendations.
Ability to acquire and maintain knowledge of radio system trends through training and
periodicals.
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering help to
others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual
concerns. Includes the ability to build a constructive team spirit where team members are
committed to the goals and objectives of the team.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or

up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be required to stand, walk,
climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell; will regularly be
required to sit; and will frequently be required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach
with hands and arms.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in various indoor and outdoor environments. While performing the duties of

this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions, high precarious
places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions,
extreme heat, and vibration; and will frequently be exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk
of electrical shock.

Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm with a possible on-call rotation

Rate of Pay:  $18.24 hourly (Non-Exempt)
